Gerard O'Donnell

Gerard qualified as a Solicitor in 1984 having obtained a BA and LLB from NUI Galway. In 1988 he set up the firm of O’Donnell Waters LLP and Gerard has been the senior partner in the firm since its inception. Gerard has extensive experience in all aspects of law.

Gerard has a particular interest and experience in the areas of:

  • Litigation. at both Circuit and High Court level, to include personal injury actions, contract disputes, commercial disputes, property and construction disputes.
  • Medical negligence. Gerard has represented Clients throughout the country in relation to injuries suffered by them through medical or clinical negligence.
  • Professional/regulatory bodies. For many years Gerard has represented Clients before their regulatory or professional bodies in relation to registration matters or disciplinary matters, for example the Medical Council Fitness to Practice, the Nursing and Midwifery Board Fitness to Practice and indeed the Accountancy Bodies Fitness to Practice Committees
  • Commercial property Transactions. The buying and selling or leasing of commercial properties which may also include the setting up of companies or professional partnerships.

Emilie Waters

Emilie qualified as a Solicitor in 1984 having obtained a BA and LLB from NUI Galway. Having worked as an associate Solicitor in another legal practice in Galway Emilie joined the firm in 1989 and subsequently became a partner. Emilie is the practice manager and oversees all aspects of the running of the firm.

Emilie’s area of expertise lies in the investigation and rectification of complex Title matters and processing same through to registration. Emilie also has extensive knowledge of the area of medical negligence litigation, particularly in the gathering and processing of relevant medical evidence both oral and documentary and dealing with the reports necessary to process a claim through the courts.

Niamh Kavanagh

Niamh qualified as a Solicitor in 1996 having obtained a BA and LLB from NUI Galway. Niamh joined the firm of O’Donnell Waters LLP in 2015 and has brought to the practice her extensive experience of probate and the administration of Estates of deceased persons. Niamh also has expertise in the area of Capital Tax issues together with the provision of tailored estate planning services from her experience working with an international accountancy/Tax firm based in Dublin. Niamh also has expertise in the areas of contract law, company/commercial law, employment law, licencing law and has lectured in all of these areas in the Galway Mayo Institute of Technology and Galway Business School.

From her experience in dealing with the Estates of deceased persons. Niamh has developed an interest in the area of capacity and dealing with clients in relation to the handling of their affairs, including the preparation of Enduring Powers of Attorney and Advanced Health Care directives.

Isabelle O'Donnell

Isabelle qualified as a Solicitor in 2014 having obtained a BA and LLB in NUI Galway. Isabelle deals with conveyancing transactions and personal injury actions. Isabelle has a keen interest in helping clients deal with all aspect of buying and selling property, in particular dealing with Banks, Building Societies and all financial institutions regarding loan approvals and financing generally. Isabelle also advises clients in relation to dealing with Engineers regarding mapping and structural issues and also in relation to dealing with state bodies such as the Revenue Commissioners and local authorities regarding the planning.

Isabelle’s aim is to make the process of buying or selling property as stress free as possible for her clients. Isabelle also handles all types of personal injury actions at both Circuit and High Court level. These cases would include road traffic accidents and medical negligence cases.
